Our Facebook page is live and has a data visualization from 1854!

We are very excited to announce our Facebook page is live and we will be using the new Timeline layout to fill it with very cool data visualizations through the ages! We will be creating an extensive timeline of data visualizations and milestone moments within the field.

To start off our timeline we have gone all the way back to 1854 with Dr John Snow’s dot map of Cholera deaths within the Soho District of London. Take a look at the reproduction dot map which we have modified slightly to highlight the deaths and pumps with the use of colour. This small tweak really shows the concentration of deaths around the Broad Street pump. Compared to the original, without the colour, the lines for the streets really blended in with the dots for the deaths. For further insight click here for the full story on our Facebook page.

What are your thoughts on the effectiveness of Dr John Snow’s dot map? Does the use of colour make it easier to see the deaths and pumps? Post your comments!
